The sooner these are banned in London the better. The roads were bad enough before but now they're clogged up all the time and so are the parking bays with these drivers sitting in their cars waiting for a job taking up a space they aren't paying for.

I certainly don't subscribe to this theory that private hire drivers are more likely to be "dodgy" but 2 cases of convicted sex offenders in a 360 year history isn't a bad record and the fact that most people can name the black cab rapist speaks volumes.

It's a simple case of supply and demand. Don't think it's anything to complain about given that the same principle applies to countless other travel services.
Book a flight to Spain during the school summer holidays and it's significantly more expensive than booking one for a Tuesday morning In November.
If we draw Manchester Utd in the 3rd round of the FA Cup then the price of train tickets from Euston to Manchester on w/e 8th January will increase as they start to get snapped up.
I refused to pay Uber surge prices for a long time and if I have the choice, I'll take a black cab. That said, it's still usually quicker and cheaper going with the surge Uber.

Think it's madness how people can generalise an entire trade of 24k drivers. As people have said on here before there are plenty of cab drivers who have bad habits, cash only, broom jobs, smoke in cabs etc etc but they are low badge numbers old boys who know no better and will be gone before long. The younger cabbie will if he hasn't already be more embracing of apps, card machines, customer service and that's the future of the trade in my opinion.

My mate threw up over the back of a black cab drivers head once after a few too many coming back from a club at 3am. He said he wanted a score to get himself hosed down and the inside of the cab valeted, but my mate didn't have any dosh, I can see why they do nights though as days are gridlock in Central London many days.
